What’s green about this?
We saved the original basement and are expanding the building using what’s already there — saves concrete and embodied energy (and money)
You can see workers carefully insulating the inside of the block wall for the crawl space
Other people are using a laser level to check the slope away from the house to control stormwater runoff
There will be straw bale walls and a small thatched portico made from locally harvested straw and thatch, reducing our carbon footprint
This is worker housing, providing a safe and beautiful place to live, cook great meals, and build community for interns working on the clients farm
Stay tuned for more photographs!
The rough pencil sketch shows that we began our design by looking at the microclimate.
