Polly Bart is an expert LEED consultant who has been invited on numerous occasions to speak on the subject of “What is LEED?” She has published a series of five articles in Chesapeake Home Magazine on LEED for Homes. This video quickly and clearly explains exactly what LEED is, and why it matters.
Greenbuilders, Inc. can dive into the details of solving a backyard water problem or fixing a porch; we also have an overview of the most advanced techniques in the industry. This sets us apart as a residential general contractor. It’s a great combination which serves our clients extremely well.
From 2007 to 2010, Greenbuilders, Inc. guided 17 million dollars ($17MM) in commercial construction projects to LEED certification in the fields of new construction (NC), substantial renovation (NC) and commercial interiors (CI). Two projects received certification at the LEED Gold level; one project at LEED Silver. In addition, we were the principal straw bale subcontractor for a LEED project in Bowie, Maryland which was certified at the Silver level. Since then, we have maintained our LEED accreditation specialty, (LEED NC+D) with the US Greenbuilding Council through education and experience.
During this same time our core business and our focus has been residential green remodeling. We noticed that our on-the-ground experience with residential projects informed our commercial LEED consulting. Even more exciting, what we learned in the process of certifying multi-million dollar commercial projects often translated directly to our residential work.
We believe that residential work is the new frontier and the greatest need as consumers seek to translate their green ideals into beautiful, high service and high quality home projects.
